Quick update

We're here and are settling in quite nicely since the move. Unfortunately, I have yet to do anything creative. It's been all about getting organized, volunteering at school, and lots of errands. I hoping the dust will settle soon. I'm anxious to get started on some more projects. I'm also busy planning my daughter's room. I've found some lovely fabric from Amy Butler's new "Love" collection. The colours are so fresh and the patterns are gorgeous. I haven't yet decided how to incorporate it all into the room, but I want to update her toddler room and give it a more grown up kind of funky/ girly feel.

Here are a few samples from amybutlerdesign.com. What do you think? I'm having a hard time deciding which fabric too choose from the collection. There's lots and I like it all.

PS: Hi Robert and Danna. I saw your message and it's me! :) Hope you're doing well. My email is shalmar27@yahoo.com

Where have I been.....

I know it's been a while since I've last updated the blog. I've taken a few road trips with the family, getting the little one ready for school, and my husband sprang it on me last month that we're moving. Since then I've had hardly any time to get anything creative started. I'm looking forward to settling down soon and getting my supplies back in order.
In the mean time, I quickly wanted to share some of the little canvases I created for my brothers' new little baby Lincoln. He and his wife did a sea themed room with lots of blues and green and I wanted to give them something special, so I made these.

These are mixed media pieces using canvas, lots of paper, gel medium, buttons, oil pastels, and some ink. I was a little worried giving these to them because they weren't very whimsical like you would expect for a baby's room, but they loved them. It makes me so happy that they really liked them. I hope to get things back in order next month. I will update with more soon.

Meet Lila

It took me forever to get this one finished. I've just had so many things to take care of this month, and my little Lola wanted to spend almost all her free time outside playing with her buddies. That, and the fact that my hubby has been gone all week on a fishing trip. It's left me with little time and little energy for almost anything else. I have had some time to do a little sketching, so I've got my next few pieces sort of planned out.

This one is the second in my Lola's girls series. Her name is "Lila".

It is a mixed media collage, consisting of paper, acrylic, water colour, ink, and pen. The dimensions are 9X12 on a gallery wrapped canvas with the edges painted black. The piece has been sprayed with a matte seal to protect it from the elements.

This is also available for purchase for $40,- (includes free priority shipping)

Lola's Girls

Here is the first in my new series called Lola's Girls. She looks so sweet and I love the whimsical feel of this. It reminds me so much of my sweet little daughter Lola and her youthful innocence that I've named the series after her.

The first one is called "Chloe".
It is a mixed media collage, consisting of paper, acrylic, water colour, ink, and pen. The dimensions are 9X12 on a gallery wrapped canvas with the edges painted black. The piece has been sprayed with a matte seal to protect it from the elements.

This is an original for sale priced at $40,- which includes free priority shipping. (*edited to say: Item has sold)

2 more

I finished another the other two in this series. They are on their way to my mom in Virginia for the show. I love how these little puppet girls turned out. It was quite hard to part with them. I was very tempted to just hang them up on the walls. LOL!

Each painting in the series is a mixed medium collage. I used a gallery wrapped canvas (8x10 or 9x12), and a combination of paper, water colour, oil pastels, molding paste and acrylics to get the look. I've also sealed each piece with a clear UV acrylic coat to help preserve and protect each one.

Right now, my "art" room is a bit of a disaster from pulling everything out. Usually I clean up in between projects, but I had to work fast to get them in the mail on time. While getting everything back in it's place, I've started another project. This series will look slightly different and a bit more whimsical than the last. I can't wait to share these with you. It's about half way done, so I'll put it up soon.

For now here the pictures of the last two girls I finished up.
Thanks for stopping by!

New Art

This collection started out so I could add a few new pieces of art to my walls. I've been painting off and on for years and have recently picked up a paintbrush again to dabble in mixed media collage work. I've found it to be really fun. My first two, I gave to my Mom and Sister in-law Lulu as presents. They loved it, and before I knew it, I was talking to my mom about showing a few pieces in her upcoming arts and crafts show in Virginia. So, for the past few days I have have been working like crazy trying to get a few more made up to make the deadline for her show in May. (There goes the new art for my walls.) LOL! I'll just have to work harder to get some made up for myself. Here are some of the pieces I have already completed. I have two more in the works, so I'll share those upon completion. What do you think so far?

I'm back

A few months ago my darling little Lola deleted my original blog. (It was an accident.) I was in the middle of an edit, stepped away for a few secs, and when I came back it was GONE......sigh. Well, after a long break, I'm back. A few things have happened since the blog went down. I've started working at a lovely little paper crafts store in town called the Scrap shack. I'm so lucky to have gotten the chance to work there. It's the cutest little store filled to the brim with lots of gorgeous paper and fun embelishments.....heaven!! Even Lola gets to hang out and work with me on occasion. How fun is that! I've also started painting again. It's been many years since I've picked up a paint brush and have felt inspired. It feels really good. Lola is now old enough to sit along side of me and work on her own projects as I do my own. She loves to hang out with mom in the "art room". (Never mind that I'm constantly subjected to having to listen to the Back Yardigans and Dora the Explorer soundtracks.....nonstop...everytime) We have great fun together though. Even Peter has gotten in on it and started making his own fishing lures. Quite the creative bunch we've become. We're all cramed in a little room, but we're lucky to have the extra space.
I'll soon have more to share now that the blog is up and running again....so stay tuned. :)
